How we work
Simple, structured support, not more noise. Here’s what it looks like to work together, from our first conversation through to ongoing support.
We keep things straightforward, transparent and human. Whether you’re working with us for bookkeeping foundations, virtual CFO (vCFO) and valuations, or project work, the same principles apply. Clear steps, plain language and no surprises.
Our process
We use the same core process across all engagements so you know what to expect, whether we’re looking after your books, running a cash flow project or preparing a valuation.
Clarity Call
A 30-minute conversation to understand where you’re at, what’s not working and what “calmer and clearer” would look like for you.
We’ll talk briefly about your current setup, any key deadlines or pain points, and whether you’re likely to need bookkeeping foundations, vCFO-style support, a cash flow project, a valuation, or a mix of these.
Implementation
We stabilise the essentials first, then implement the agreed changes. From bookkeeping clean-up to new workflows, reporting packs or valuation deliverables.
We guide you and your team through the new way of working so it feels clear and manageable, not overwhelming.
Scope & proposal
After the call, we shape what we’ve learned into a clear written scope and pricing through our digital engagement system.
You’ll see exactly what’s included before you decide.
No surprises, no jargon. Just a straightforward outline of the work, timing and investment.
Ongoing support
Depending on your level of support, we’re there for regular bookkeeping, vCFO sessions, system improvements, cash flow updates, valuations when needed. Along with the inevitable “can we just talk this through?” moments as your business evolves.
Deep-dive & recommendations
Once you’re on board, we dig deeper into your numbers and systems. This might include reviewing your accounting file, key reports, workflows, obligations and goals.
For valuations, this is where we gather and analyse the detailed financial and non-financial information we need.
For vCFO and projects, it’s where we identify the key risks, quick wins and longer-term opportunities.
At every stage, we’ll be upfront about what we’re doing, why it matters, and what we need from you.
What we look at
Our work usually brings together a few key lenses:
-
Financials – accounting data, historical performance, cash flow patterns and key obligations
-
Systems & workflows – how information and tasks move through your business in practice, not just on paper
-
People & roles – who does what, how responsibilities are shared and where things depend on one or two key individuals
-
Risks & bottlenecks – areas where things regularly stall, get missed, or create stress
-
Goals & context – what you’re working towards, what’s changing and what “better” would look like for you
For valuation work, we also look more closely at business drivers, industry context and the specific purpose of the valuation.
What to expect from a clarity call
The clarity call is a space to talk openly about where things are at and what you’d like to change. It’s not a high-pressure sales call, and it’s not a full diagnostic session.
During the call, we will:
-
Ask a few questions about your business, current setup and priorities
-
Listen for the themes where things feel messy, confusing or heavy
-
Talk through which types of support may be most useful (foundations, vCFO, cash flow project, valuation, or project work)
-
Outline likely next steps and what you can expect from a proposal
You’re welcome to bring recent reports, questions or specific concerns, but you don’t need anything perfectly prepared before we talk.
Tools we often work with
We’re not tied to any one platform, and we’re happy to work with the systems you already use. These are some of the tools we regularly see in our clients’ businesses:
Accounting & finance
-
Xero
-
MYOB
-
QuickBooks Online
Payroll solutions
-
Employment Hero
-
Deputy
-
Payroller
Operations & workflows
-
Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Planner)
-
ClickUp
-
Notion
Documents & data capture
-
OneDrive
-
Shared document libraries (e.g. SharePoint sites)
-
Receipt and document capture apps (e.g. Dext, Hubdoc)
If you’re using something different, that’s okay. We’ll get to know your setup and make recommendations that work with it, rather than forcing a particular stack.
